now named in honor of her parents, and spoke of a few of the wonderful things that her
various financial and personal contributions have created for the college. |

But it was not just her ability to influence the corporate boardroom, or pop into a
college presidents office that made Mother Helen queen bee over
unimaginable levels of power and influence. Her commitment to family was paramount, as
noted by one of her granddaughters during her roughly one hour public ceremony. She said
that Mother Helen was good at imparting wisdom when she needed it most. She told of the
time when she and one of her boyfriends broke up, and she said that her grandmother told
her, Theres always a sun
some days you just have to look for

The sun is appropriate when speaking of Mother Helen, since she was a bright light, as
bright and as radiant and profound as anyone could have been. Its no secret that the
fire of the public eye or spotlight can burn, and can burn hot. People in the public eye
will sometimes characterize that life as a difficult one to bear. But that was not the
case with Helen Walton. Mother Helen pretty much led an uneventful public life. There was
no scandal with her. There were no known battles of unfortunate whims. The family which
was led by one of the richest women to ever live appears to have been very well grounded,
to her and Mr. Sams credit. Usually when a family has at its disposal the vast
amounts of wealth and resources that the Waltons do, they are always in the public
eye with some sort of story riddled with angst, disgust, and embarrassment for the family
name. Not the case within the Walton clan however. I am not an insider by any means, but I
would think that its safe to say that has to be a direct result and tribute to the
teachings and groundings of the late family matriarch, Helen Walton. |

Class, Dignity, Grace, and inner peace are all hallmarks of the Walton clan under the
maternal life and leadership of Mother Helen Robson Walton. Mothers are very special
people. Given all that is involved in carrying a child to term, raising them through term,
and caring for them after your term, its no wonder |

| why our universe chose the female species as the ultimate place to bestow
that responsibility. Mothers are mothers for a reason. They are mothers of our
communities, mothers of our churches, as well as mothers of our companies and there
is no better example than Mother Helen.
